Avignon

Just got back from the weekend in Avignon. It was just like every other French city I've visited in that of course it was beautiful. In my opinion the city is highly underrated compared to the more highlighted cities in France (Paris). To me it was just like Paris just in the South of France. We were lucky to have blue skies and bright sun on Saturday...the only issue was the Mistral (wind so horrible they named it). Aside from that we had a great tour of the city. Most impressive was the gigantic Palais des Papes....one of the largest gothic structures in the world...and housed the popes in the 1300's. Sunday we woke up to snow, really surprising given the sun and clear skies the day before. We ventured out of Avignon to Arles which was about 45 min drive and the weather took a massive turn for the worst. Sadly I wasn't able to capture the beauty of the city because it was just too cold for me to work the camera, but if I told you it was pretty would you believe me! Van Gogh actually lived in the city for some time and found inspiration in it's beauty, it's also where he cut off a piece of his ear....The weekend ended with us caught in a snow storm while driving back to Saint Etienne....quite memorable!
