Oh la la la la....the last post was more than a year ago?! Where did the time go? To be fair, the blog is called When in France....and since I'm no longer in France I have an excuse to take a year long hiatus.
So needless to say I'm back in the USA....married.........and if you check out the pictures below apparently I'm French too!!!!! Can you guess my new obsession. Lets get back to my roots......pastries.....or to be more specific MACARONs. I've taken my obsession a step further and instead of dreaming about these cute little bites of deliciousness wishing I had one.....I started making them. It's taken me a while to get started, my sister in law bought me a little macaron making kit back in January and I've been staring at the book ever since, trying to muster up the courage....these little bugers are difficult! Well with all the extra time I've had recently (my hub went back to France for a few weeks) I decided now's the time!!!! Funny story, the kit and recipe book she got me was in French....who cares, they're just macarons right...I can figure it out.
Oh la la I say again. For those who have never heard of these little french cookies something important to know......it's like a science, people don't just wing it....unless you want to waste $$$$ and lower your self esteem....they will not come out as they should! Well, I didn't let that batch get me down because the one light at the end of that ugly tunnel was the filling! Amazing. Vanilla bean cream. Yes I just said something that I made was amazing..."It isn't bragging if it's true" right?!
So after finding a recipe that I could actually understand clearly, I realized I skipped over so many steps because I didn't understand the french....you don't get by in life skipping steps! Following the directions things turned out quite differently...visually much better.
Is this going to become a thing? Should I change the title of this blog? I need to mull it over, I forgot how nice it is to write thoughts down.....crazy as they may be at times. Anyways, I'm sure there will be more posts about my adventures in Macaron making. New flavors are dancing around in my head!
